Your Goldsmith Loves You!

Your Goldsmith Loves You!

To find a skilled goldsmith in this world is beyond hard!

The tradition and industry of jewelry craftsmanship are lessening and lessening, especially in Wyoming and areas with the least amount of people. Most stores have to move someone with this kind of talent to their area or pay for ads nationwide just to find a goldsmith.

I’ve done this. I paid for ads for about a year, and when Scotty Ray was ready to move back to Gillette, I was beyond blessed to have him join our team! A man with a background in precision welding, measuring, vibration analysis, and more... he was ready for a change in career.

EK sent him to one of the top goldsmithing schools in the nation, New Approach in Nashville, for three months, and he came back with great connections and skill. Most stores don’t allow a new smith to touch anything other than scrap gold for at least a year, but I trusted and saw the natural talent Scotty had to offer and put him straight to work.

To say I am blessed is not enough!

Scotty puts so much care into every single piece he touches. He often consults others for advice or practices on similar pieces before taking on harder projects. Most people don’t see the tedious, detailed work that goes into goldsmithing, and I wish I could show every client what truly happens when we work on their sentimental pieces. It is definitely not for the faint of heart!

That same attention to detail shows in how he handles every repair that comes through our doors. Pieces go in the order they arrive. Some projects take about a week, while others may take two, depending on complexity. With every single piece, we look under the microscope or loupe to see if there are other issues beyond the reason it came in. Usually, if a stone falls out, there’s a reason. We find that reason and fix it before putting another stone back in.

Once the work is finished, every piece goes through a careful quality check to make sure it’s done to perfection. Seeing our guests’ faces light up when they pick up their jewelry is what keeps us, and Scotty, going!

Since he’s in the back most of the time, he doesn’t always get to hear how much people love their pieces, so sometimes we pull him out or go celebrate with him, because it makes a person feel good knowing they NAILED IT! :D

And if you ever need a reminder of how much heart goes into every piece, remember this: “Your goldsmith loves you.” 💛

(This is Scotty’s favorite quote!)
